Energy Calculators

To help you estimate your electricity use, various energy calculators are available. The following conversions between dollars and cents will be helpful when entering data in the calculators.

  • $0.1000 = 10 cents
  • $0.0995 = 9.95 cents

Appliance Calculator Worksheet

Appliance Worksheet buttonValley REC has created an appliance worksheet to help you determine the energy used and the cost to run your various appliances, devices, and equipment for a month. The worksheet uses spreadsheet software to perform its calculations. The appliance calculator worksheet is the first sheet (tab) of the spreadsheet, and instructions are on the second sheet (tab).

Two versions of the spreadsheet are available. One is an Excel file, and the other is an OpenDocument file. Click on the version that you prefer to begin your calculations

  • Appliance Worksheet - Excel Spreadsheet (18 KB)
  • Appliance Worksheet - OpenDocument Spreadsheet (17 KB)

Lighting Calculator

Lighting Calculator buttonUse the Energy Star Light Bulbs page to see how much energy and money you can save by switching from incandescent bulbs to LEDs. The page discusses the benefits of switching to Energy Star LED bulbs and offers guidance on purchasing the right bulbs for your needs. The page also includes a detailed spreadsheet that you can download to calculate all of the light bulbs you plan to use. Remember to round your electricity rate to the nearest cent and enter that value in dollar format on the spreadsheet. For Valley's residential rate of 9.95 cents, you would need to round to 10 cents and enter it as $0.10.
