Valley Rural Electric Cooperative will host its ninth annual benefit golf outing Thursday, June 25 at the Huntingdon Country Club, 10305 Raystown Road, Huntingdon. All of Valley's offices will be closed that day as employees lend a hand for the event. Started by Valley REC's employee health and wellness committee, which has raised more than $180,000 for charities since its inception, the tournament will benefit three area residents, Talan Arnold, Elizabeth Brumbaugh, and Gilbert McClain.
Talan Arnold, age 4, has had cystic fibrosis since birth. Breathing treatments and avoiding exposure to illnesses are critical to Talan, who is the son of Eric and Lauren Arnold of Duncansville. The family has traveled frequently to UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh. Talan is an energetic youngster who enjoys riding his four-wheeler and helping his dad around the house. He loves the Avenger superheroes, especially Hulk.
Elizabeth Brumbaugh is a junior at Juniata Valley High School. Last summer she had surgery for a tumor on her brain stem. Surgeons at Penn State Children’s Hospital, Hershey removed half the tumor. She then began radiation treatments and is now on chemotherapy. Liz lives with her mother and father, Alison and Wade Brumbaugh, in Alexandria. A motivated student, Elizabeth misses being in school. She is witty and quirky, and what she enjoys most is hanging out with friends and family.
Two-year-old Gilbert “Gib” McClain is the son of Trey and Caroline McClain of Mapleton. In December 2019, Gib was diagnosed with leukemia and began chemotherapy. The family makes frequent trips to the Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center. Gilbert is very active. He enjoys helping his mom cook and likes to play with his little brother. He also likes to romp outside with his golden retriever, Missy.
